Spike TV today announced part of its lineup for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 11 event, and previously unreported fights include Leonard Garcia (10-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Cole Miller (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC), as well as the UFC return of Nate Quarry (8-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) vs. Pete Sell (7-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC).
UFC Fight Night 11 takes place Sept. 19 and precedes the debut episode of “The Ultimate Fighter 6.” The event takes place at the The Palms Las Vegas and airs at 9 p.m on Spike TV.
The Quarry vs. Sell fight will be a rematch from the first UFC Fight Night, where Quarry scored a quick, 42-second TKO.
Quarry, a standout from “The Ultimate Fighter 1,” was eventually forced out of competition on the show because of an ankle injury. He’s been recovering from back surgery and eyeing a comeback to the UFC, where after three dominating victories, he eventually lost to then-champ Rich Franklin at UFC 56.
Sell, who appeared on the fourth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” has three losses in the UFC — to Quarry, Scott Smith and Thales Leites — but is best remembered for his UFC 51 submission victory over Phil Baroni.
The lightweight fight between Garcia and Miller is an intriguing one. Both fighters are coming off UFC victories (Garcia over Allen Berubie, and Miller over Andy Wang), but the fight is destined for the night’s undercard.
Garcia lost to Roger Huerta via unanimous decision earlier this year. However, the UFC 69 battle has already been labeled a “Fight of the Year” candidate, and it assured Garcia a future in the UFC.
Miller, a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” was knocked off the show with a controversial loss to Joe Lauzon in the quarterfinals. Miller was tagged with an unintentional punch to the back of his head, and he was never the same after. He eventually suffered a second-round TKO.
UFC Fight Night 11 is headlined by a fight between Spencer Fisher and Din Thomas. Additionally, Mike Swick makes his welterweight debut against Jonathan Goulet, and “The Ultimate Fighter 5” winner Nate Diaz takes on Junior Assuncao.
