| NFL Mocks "Cage Fighting" During Patriots-Giants Big Game
The following are some excerpts of a blog entry from Zach Arnold over at FightOpinion.com:
In a thinly-veiled attack on UFC (and WEC), Saturday night’s NFL Network broadcast (simulcasted on NBC and CBS) of the New York Giants vs. New England Patriots featured a TV ad spot for “I want NFL Network.”
Arnold's article contined:
However, ‘cage fighting’ was attacked the most during the ad, with the last actor in the ad asking why cable companies think ‘cage fighting’ is more popular than the NFL.
Check the full blog entry out at FightOpinion.com.
This just happened to air during a history setting game as the Patriots became the first NFL team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins (who went 14-0) to go the entire regular season undefeated (the Patriots went 16-0). What was airing opposite this historical gridiron classic? UFC 79 "Nemesis" with "the most anticipated fight in MMA history" between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. HBO boxing couldn't help but take a shot at MMA during the biggest prize fight in history earlier in 2007 (Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.) and now NFL can't seem to keep from doing the same.
It's going to be a great 2008.

| Just freaking ridiculous everyone feels threatened all the sudden and they want to take shots at MMA! The NFL has nothing to worry about why call out MMA! | |

| I saw the commercial and I had to rewind it and see what the hell they were taking about when I saw it. I wouldn't read too much into the commercial. They were talking about how the NFL Network isn't widely available but all kinds of other stuff is. | |

| I definitely think it is a low blow. I mean it is not like the NFL has to worry about their ratings dropping. Not to mention they are the ones forcing millions of people to not be able to see football games, just so down the road they can make a buck by forcing people to pay to watch! | |

| the NFL itself is a joke. it believes its the most superior sport in the world and king of everything. It knows UFC will not take away the crazy football fans, but in all reality we know MMA is a lot more fun to watch than football. Granted I am a football fan and enjoy it. but my ass was sitting on my couch with a beer in my hand watching UFC 70 instead of football. I do see UFC giving the NFL serious competiton in years to come. | |

| I like both but even as an x player I would go to a UFC event over a football game anyday! Well unless the Raiders were in the super-bowl and I had tickets! Lol they can co exist without throwing shots! I would expect that from Boxing not the FL! | |

| u all are looking at it wrong! the only reason anyone feels the need 2 trash anyone is the fact that they feel threatened. this is a compliment! the numbers speak volumes! this old guy that used 2 run numbers in my hometown used 2 tell me.. 'if they arent talking shit about u....u need 2 make more noise" every sport is talking trash about mma! that means its heading UP! | |

Well, I guess you won't have to make that decision for quite a while.

My Raiders are coming back strong Double D’s watch Jamarcus Russell will lead us to the promise land! I can agree with that. Mainly b/c I am from Tiger country and he was amazing when we had him. We all know brooks was the pro bowl MVP quarterback the raideres needed.
