Dan Lauzon: Joe Lauzon Fighting at UFC 78

“The Ultimate Fighter 5” cast member Joe Lauzon (15-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who made a splash by scoring a first-round TKO of Jens Pulver prior to the show’s filming, has undergone knee surgery but expects to be healed in time to appear on the UFC 78 fight card in Newark, New Jersey.

UFC 78 takes place Nov. 17 at the Prudential Center.

Lauzon recently posted the news on his Facebook page.

The 23-year-old Lauzon entered the lightweights-only season of “The Ultimate Fighter” as an early favorite. And though he looked impressive, he lost to eventual runner-up Manny Gamburyan in the show’s seminfinals. He returned at the show’s live finale and defeated Brandon Melendez with a second-round submission via triangle choke.

According to Dan Lauzon, Joe’s younger brother, Joe had knee surgery “last Wednesday.” The injury developed prior to Joe appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter,” and he’s expecting a full recovery in a few weeks.
Joe will head to Hawaii next month to train with B.J. Penn (his coach on “The Ultimate Fighter”), according to Dan.

As for Dan (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), he’s asked the UFC for more time to develop as a fighter before he returns to the organization. This past October, he took a fight on two weeks’ notice and suffered a first-round TKO to Spencer Fisher at UFC 64.

At 18 years, five months and 14 days old, he was the youngest fighter ever to appear in the UFC.
