Years from now, 2007 could be remembered as the Year of the Upset in mixed martial arts. Or, perhaps, it could simply be the first year that the sport woke up and realized anyone can win at anytime.
Regardless, the underdogs reigned supreme in the UFC this year, and our friend Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com created the website’s official Top 10 list of upsets for the 2007 fight season.
Although some choices, such as Quinton Jackson’s first-round TKO of Chuck Liddell at UFC 71, require some clarification as to why they rank where they do, most of the list is pretty straightforward.
So what does the list tell us? If you beat Chuck Liddell or Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic — or if a belt changes hands — there’s a good chance you’ve got an upset on hand. Additionally, we realize just how good the UFC 69 and UFC 76 events were.
