“The Ultimate Fighter 6” debuts Sept. 19 (at 11 p.m. ET/PT) on Spike TV and features current UFC 170-pound champion Matt Serra and former champ Matt Hughes as coaches. After the debut, the show will air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. The season will conclude with a live finale that takes place Dec. 8 at The Palms Las Vegas.
The show recently concluded filming, and the fighters and coaches have returned home.
In addition to the previously reported 15 names, we can now add Australian George Sotiropoulos (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and amateur Daniel Barrera (0-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) to the list.
The latest additions bring the total number of cast members to 17 — for what is usually a group of 16 fighters. However, UFCjunkie.com has learned that one of the cast members is injured during the filming of the show, and a replacement is brought in.
Sotiropoulos, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, is a frequent competitor in submission grappling tournaments and was an ADCC World Championships participant. His only career losses are to Shinya Aoki (11-2 MMA) and Kyle Noke (13-3 MMA).
Little is known about Barrera, who is believed to have won just one amateur fight. Apparently, he had success in U.S. Armed Forces Pankration tournaments.
Unlike last season, no cast member from “The Ultimate Fighter 6” has any experience in the Octagon; all will be UFC newcomers.
