Both Drew McFedries (6-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Marvin Eastman (14-7-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC) are likely to fight at Cincinnati’s UFC 77 event on Oct. 20, according to
MMAWeekly.com.
Neither fighter has an opponent listed, but
UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) has learned that McFedries and Eastman may fight each other — as middleweights — at the event.
The hard-hitting McFedries posted a stunning knockout of Jordan Radev in his latest fight. At UFC Fight Night 10 last month, McFedries dropped his opponent in just 30 seconds and followed up the KO punch with a series of unanswered blows while Radev lay unconscious on the canvas. Radev eventually left the arena strapped to a stretcher.
Prior to the victory, McFedries made a successful Octagon debut with a first-round TKO over Alessio Sakara (UFC 65) but subsequently was submitted by Martin Kampmann with a first-round arm-triangle choke at UFC 68.
Eastman, his possible UFC 77 opponent, is still searching for an elusive first win in the UFC.
After a loss to Quinton Jackson at UFC 67, the 38-year-old Eastman headed to the upstart Steele Cage Promotions organization for its July 7 inaugural show. Dropping to 185 pounds, Eastman picked up the organization’s middleweight title by defeating a game Rob Kimmons via unanimous decision.
The seven-year MMA veteran and corrections officer now looks for his first-ever win in the Octagon. Thus far, he’s been unsuccessful against Vitor Belfort (UFC 43), Travis Lutter (UFC 50) and Jackson.
UFC 77 takes place at U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati. Current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will take on former champ (and Cincinnati native) Rich Franklin in the night’s main event.
